What a day! The 73rd Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade filled downtown with music, school spirit, and community pride this past weekend!
This year’s theme, “Literary Legends – Celebrating Famous Characters from the Last 100 Years,” honored the Plainfield Area Public Library’s centennial. Leading the parade was Grand Marshal Mindy Jackson, the library’s School Services Librarian, who has spent decades inspiring a love of reading in District 202 students. 📚✨
A wonderful tradition for decades, the parade once again showcased the energy, talent, and pride of our schools and community.

I'm thrilled to introduce myself! My name is Kristen Salgado, and I'm excited to be your new Principal here at Crystal Lawns Elementary. I've already heard so many heartwarming things about our amazing community, and I'm looking forward to diving in and supporting all of our fantastic students, families, and teachers for many years to come.
What makes this feel extra special for me is that my journey in education actually began right here in the Plainfield School District, a whole 30 years ago, as a Student Teacher at Crystal Lawns! It feels wonderful to be back and working to support the school that supported me as a young teacher. Since then, I've had the incredible privilege of working as both a Teacher and an Assistant Principal within several schools across the district.
I would love for all of you to join me for an informal Meet and Greet! Please save the date for Popsicles with the Principal on August 5th from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Stop by the front of the school for a popsicle and a quick chat. This will be such a lovely chance for us to connect, share smiles, and get to know each other. I truly can't wait to hear your stories about Crystal Lawns and have the chance to meet some of the incredible students and parents who make our school feel like one big, happy family.
Can't wait to see you there!

We would like to welcome and introduce our new Principal to Crystal Lawns, Ms. Kristen Salgado. Ms. Salgado most recently served for 11 years as an Assistant Principal and has spent her entire career - 28 years - in District 202.
Before becoming an Assistant Principal, she taught third, fourth, and fifth grades and was a student teacher at Crystal Lawns for one semester. She is looking forward to helping students and staff grow while honoring the traditions of the Crystal Lawns community.
“The staff at Crystal Lawns are dedicated and passionate educators who positively impact the lives of their students and families, and I am honored to have the opportunity to partner with them,” Salgado said.
